One day, you'll finally grow up and think back to your youth
and one day you'll think about that one summer you spent visiting your grandparents
where you met that girl with freckles and honey colored hair
You will reminisce about your friends who got you through tough times
the ones who you could cry to and fall on
More than likely, you'll remember your first car
how much you paid for it, what color it was, your first road trip with it
You will think back to your first kiss and your first concert and your first eveything

One day you'll think back to your sisters wedding
but you won't remember the cake.

One day it will all come flooding back to you and you'll probabally write a poem about it.
It will be loose and free verse because that's all you know how to write.
No one will read it, but it will still be saved onto your computer anyway
or on a paper napkin in the pocket of your faded jeans.
If you're so inclined, maybe you will burry it for no one to ever see again.

One day you will paint a picture of a sunset and try to sell it on ebay.
Someone will bid $5 on it, but you'll lie to your friends and say it was $20.
You'll go to an opera house and watch a play about
that lost couple who loved each other but died in the end.
Your wife will cry and you won't know what to do
because emotions are something you prefer to run from

One day, you might think back and think of me
but i doubt it.
In fact, i know you won't
because i never mattered to you in the first place
and you have (almost) everything you could have ever wanted to be happy.

And who knows, maybe i'll be the one to look back at her youth
maybe i'll be the one who doesn't remember the cake
maybe i'll be the one to write nothing-poems
maybe i'll be the one to paint a picture
and be stuck in an akward situation with my husband
And maybe i'll be the one who (maybe) won't think of you
because i'm tired of thinking about you
long after you've forgotten about me
